HouseTrip sold to TripAdvisor

Specialist in online house exchange services, based in London and Lisbon, joins Trip Advisor

Travel website TripAdvisor has announced its acquisition of HouseTrip which aims to increase its presence in high-demand urban destinations. Until now, TripAdvisor has relied on FlipKey,

Holidays Lettings and Niumba to provide peer-to-peer rental accommodations, mainly in vacation areas along the coast and in the mountains.

HouseTrip will continue to operate under its own brand while making its listings available to TripAdvisor's websites. Regarding the acquisition HouseTrip's management said: "We are certain that this will be beneficial to all of our site's property owners". HouseTrip's market is undergoing rapid consolidation, as shown by the AccorHôtels group's recent acquisition of Onefinestay and Expedia's purchase of HomeAway in 2015.

Dermot Halpin, the president of TripAdvisorRental commented : "HouseTrip brings valuable choices to our travelers, particulary those visiting Europe". HouseTrip will enable the U.S website to add some 300,000 properties to its current offering of about 770,000 houses and apartments.
