Not So Dark investment from Kharis Capital, Verlinvest & Convivialité Ventures

The French foodtech company specialising in virtual restaurants has raised $80 million from Kharis Capital, Verlinvest and Conviviality Ventures. This brings its total funding to $105 million since its founding in 2020.

In addition to revenue and assistance with product sourcing, Not So Dark provides software that centralises orders and handles marketing, so that virtual brands are in the top positions on delivery platforms. The start-up, which is paid with a commission, assures that its partners generate an average of 30,000 euros in additional turnover per month.

In total, Not So Dark has developed seven virtual brands that surf on current food trends (bowls, burgers, vegetarian cuisine, etc.). Clément Benoit, co-founder, is delighted to have achieved this pivot, at a time when dark kitchens are causing growing irritation among local residents who are fed up with their noise pollution and are being denounced by certain restaurant owners, who see them as unfair competition.

The company is able to set up in towns with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants, where delivery platforms (Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Just Eat) are increasingly present. Dark kitchens, which must be located in very dense areas to operate at full capacity, did not allow this.
